Oral sleep appliances are custom-made dental devices that are worn like mouth guards or orthodontic retainers. They work by supporting your jaw in a position that keeps your airways open, preventing them from collapsing or becoming blocked while you sleep.
When you come to our office for your consultation, our dentists will carefully evaluate your teeth, jaw, tongue, and airway, and may take an x-ray of your mouth. If we determine that an oral sleep appliance will benefit you, we will take digital or physical impressions, and design your appliance using those models of your teeth. When your appliance is ready, our dentist will adjust the appliance to maximize your comfort as well as the effectiveness of your new appliance. We will also provide you with instructions on how to clean and maintain your appliance.
After providing your oral sleep appliance, our dentist will schedule periodic follow-up appointments to ensure that your device continues to fit and function properly. We may also ask you to participate in a sleep study to verify the success of your treatment.
